Spokespeople and Quotes
Tom Pincus, Show Chairperson
“When most people think of dog shows, they think of conformation,
the competition that ends in “Best of Show.” And certainly,
that appeals to many dog lovers. But our show is much more than
that. We offer many dog-related events that are fast-paced and
have high entertainment value for the general public such as the
performance events – obedience, agility, flyball, Frisbee.
Other parts of our event focus on education – teaching people
how to groom, train and care for their pets and how to be a more
responsible pet owner.
“We’ve also been careful to offer something new every
year to bring people back again and again. This year, we have
the Designer Doghouse Competition & Showcase from the members
of the Houston Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling
Industry. Plus Iams, the major supporter of our event, is bringing
nationally renowned author and pet expert to the stars, Brian
Kilcommons, to share his insight on training dogs and dealing
with problem pet behavior.
"The result is that our show is very popular both with the
dog show devotee and those who are just looking for something
fun to do in the summer or for information about how to take better
care of their pets.”
Carol Williamson, Meet the Breed Chairperson
“We think ‘Meet The Breed’ is really what sets
the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows apart from other dog
shows and really provides added value to our event. Televised
dog shows are popular now, and we are all for them. In fact, ours
is televised in October. But just watching a dog show on TV doesn’t
give you what ‘Meet the Breed’ does – a chance
to talk to experts on the kind of dog you are interested in and
to pet the dog -- feel it’s coat, get a better idea of its
size and temperament -- before you make the commitment to buy.
“It is our ultimate goal is to make unwanted pets a thing
of the past. We want to do everything we can to make sure every
family buys or adopts a dog that is appropriate for them so the
animal will not end up abandoned or in a rescue organization.
“We go to great lengths to represent as many breeds as
possible – this year, 80 different breeds in all -- so that
just about any dog anyone is interested in is likely to be represented.
Also, there is no separate ticket to buy to get into the “Meet
the Breed” ring: your general admission ticket is all you
need.”
